pytest tests/test_openscad_mcp.py
# Performance tests
pytest tests/test_performance.py
# Edge cases
pytest tests/test_edge_cases.py
```
### Run Specific Test Classes or Functions
```bash
# Run parameter parser tests
pytest tests/test_openscad_mcp.py::TestParameterParsers
# Run specific test
pytest tests/test_openscad_mcp.py::TestParameterParsers::test_parse_list_param_with_json_string
```
## Coverage Reports
### Generate Coverage Report
```bash
# HTML coverage report
pytest --cov=openscad_mcp --cov-report=html
# Terminal coverage report
pytest --cov=openscad_mcp --cov-report=term-missing
# XML coverage report (for CI/CD)
pytest --cov=openscad_mcp --cov-report=xml
```
### Coverage Requirements
- **Target**: >90% coverage for modified code
- **Minimum**: 80% coverage for critical paths
- **Current Status**: Configuration set to fail if <80%
### View Coverage Report
```bash
# Open HTML report in browser
open coverage_html_report/index.html
```
## Test Markers
The following markers are available for test categorization:
- `@pytest.mark.unit` - Fast, isolated unit tests
- `@pytest.mark.integration` - Integration tests with real components
- `@pytest.mark.performance` - Performance benchmarks
- `@pytest.mark.slow` - Tests taking >1 second
- `@pytest.mark.asyncio` - Async tests
- `@pytest.mark.edge` - Edge case tests
## Performance Benchmarks
### Expected Performance Targets
| Function | Target | Actual |
|----------|--------|--------|
| parse_list_param | <10ms/1000 calls | TBD |
| parse_dict_param | <15ms/1000 calls | TBD |
| parse_image_size_param | <5ms/1000 calls | TBD |
| estimate_response_size (small) | <5ms | TBD |
| estimate_response_size (large) | <20ms | TBD |
| manage_response_size (20 images) | <500ms | TBD |
## Test Fixtures
Key fixtures provided in `conftest.py`:
- `sample_base64_image` - Small test PNG image
- `large_base64_image` - Large image for size testing
- `temp_test_dir` - Temporary directory for file operations
- `mock_config` - Mock configuration object
- `sample_scad_content` - OpenSCAD test code
- `camera_positions` - Common camera configurations
- `test_variables` - OpenSCAD variables for testing
- `mock_context` - MCP context with async logging
- `performance_test_data` - Large datasets for benchmarks
## Known Limitations
1. **OpenSCAD Installation**: Some integration tests require OpenSCAD to be installed
2. **File System**: Some tests require write permissions to temp directories
3. **Platform Specific**: Some edge cases are platform-dependent (Windows paths, etc.)
4. **Async Tests**: Require pytest-asyncio plugin
## Continuous Integration
### GitHub Actions Configuration
```yaml
name: Tests
on: [push, pull_request]
jobs:
test:
runs-on: ubuntu-latest
steps:
- uses: actions/checkout@v2
- uses: actions/setup-python@v2
- run: pip install -r requirements-test.txt
- run: pytest --cov=openscad_mcp --cov-report=xml

## Debugging Failed Tests
### Verbose Output
```bash
# Show full assertion details
pytest -vvv
# Show print statements
pytest -s
# Stop on first failure
pytest -x
# Drop into debugger on failure
pytest --pdb
4. Use fixtures from conftest.py
5. Keep tests isolated and fast
6. Mock external dependencies
### Updating Tests
1. Run tests before making changes
2. Update tests when implementation changes
3. Maintain backward compatibility tests
4. Update performance benchmarks if needed
5. Document any new fixtures or utilities
